History

1970

Irish Hospital Supplies Limited was established as a family business in 1970 by Vincent and Muriel Farrell after Vincents return home from Canada where he worked as Operations Manager for American Hospital Supplies.

1973

Professor Karl Storz, founder appoints Vincent Farrell of Irish Hospital Supplies as the sole distributor of their products for the Irish market.

1975

Irish Hospital Supplies Limited moves from 99 Talbot Street to 108 Amien Street due to expansion and Dick O'Brien joined as the company accountant in 1975 where he remained until his passing in 2007.

1977

Raheen Engineering a wholly owned subsidiary of Irish Hospital Supplies Limited is formed. They then gain approval for an IDA Grant to build a 10,000 Sq.Ft. premises in Bray that will employ over 30 people.

1979

Chris Moore joins as Sales Manager in 1979 and was appointed as Sales Director in 1987 where he remained until his retirement in 2009.

1980

Irish Hospital Supplies Limited moves from Amien Street to a purpose built premises in Bray in 1980 to manufacture Irish made beds and furniture with a design mechanism that Vincent patented himself.

1991

Northern Hospital Supplies Limited celebrates 10 years in business in January 1991 with it’s office in the business centre on Jubilee Road, Newtownards, County Down.

1996

In 1996 the company was accredited the ISO 9001 Award which is a certified quality management system for organisations who wish to prove their ability to consistently provide products and services that meet the needs of their customers.

2010

Irish Hospital Supplies opens a Veterinary Division, supplying high quality equipment and consumables to the veterinary market.

2013

Due to ongoing growth and some great successes in contracts for both the private and public hospital sectors, Irish Hospital Supplies increased our storage capacity (after doubling it in 1994) for a second time in Bray by an additional 30%

2015

In 2015, we set up a specific Urology Division specialising in kidney stone management, representing some of the most innovative brands and technologies on the market.

2016

The company take a big step forward and set up a new Electrosurgery & Gi Division state of the art Erbe Diathermy equipment in both surgery and Gi paired with a range of surgical and Gi consumables.

2019

Works begin in Irish Hospital Supplies to open its own temperature controlled warehouse in Bray. Completed in September of 2020 in order to be compliant with MDR requirements.

2020

The WHO declare Covid-19 a global pandemic. IHS worked tirelessly with our network of partners sourcing quality PPE for our frontline workers, whilst also ensuring we provided ongoing support for our regular product lines.

2022

The entire company mourns the passing of its founder Vincent Farrell in 2022. He is survived by his wife Muriel and his daughters Niamh, Susan and Michelle who all worked in the business over the years.

2024

Brendan Foster is appointed to the board of the company as Chairperson and Interim CEO
